The Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament is a guide to the forms, meaning and usage of every word in the text of the third edition of The Greek New Testament (UBSGNT), which is equivalent to the text of the twenty-sixth edition of the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece (NTH) and the text followed by the Vollstandige Konkordanz zum griechischen Neuen Testament (VKGNT). Words in the most important textual variants in UBSGNT and NTG are also included, and the authors of EDNT articles have been granted the freedom to depart from the basic texts of these two editions where they have deemed it appropriate.
The heading of each EDNT article, along with identifying the word to be discussed, supplies the following information: the gender of the common nouns is identified by inclusion of the nominative singular article, the declension of nouns I identified by inclusion of the genitive singular ending, whether an adjective has one, two of three sets of endings (corresponding to the three genders) is specified by a boldface number, the word is transliterated, the meaning of the word is indicated by one or more English translations (sometimes divided according to verb voice or adjectival or substantival use of an adjective), an asterisk appears at the end of the heading line if all New Testament occurrences of a word are at least mentioned in the body of the article.
