Spiritually Strong: The Ultimate 6-Week Guide to Building Your Body and Soul by Kristen Feola, 2014

This six-week program of spiritual and physical exercises is easy to incorporate into your daily life, yet its effects will change you forever. Flex your spiritual muscles and discover the joy of living out God's calling with renewed energy and purpose ...

I promise to push you to do more than you would do on your own.

    --author Kristen Feola

Spiritually Strong reflects on the comparison of caring for our body and for our soul. Parallel in preparation ~ warmup, exercises, cooldown, and daily action challenge; to begin and stay with it. I go to a morning aerobics class followed by a stretching class three times a week. I am maintaining. Exerting more energy, walking the other days would benefit my health in these winter days. Join me in having Kristen Feola as our very own "personal trainer" in these six weeks.

Exercises in a periodized program are changed frequently to prevent your muscles from adapting to your routine.

    --Spiritually Strong, 126

The same with spiritual exercise for your heart, mind, soul, and strength; apply assigned Scripture passage, study questions, reflect on what God has shown you, and pray.

    Nutritious!

    Jeremiah 15:16 ~

"Your words were found and I ate them,

    And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart;

For I have been called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts."

These six weeks focus on Commitment, Power, Perseverance, Joy, Peace, and final week Victory, spiritually and physically ~ exercising, and meal planning too.

Part 1, The Core ~* presents the muscles of the physical and spiritual core, with an introduction to the exercises that strengthen them and a discussion about the importance of self-discipline in training.

Part 2, The Exercises ~* explains the six essential exercises for training the core: Bible study, prayer, fasting, healthy living, financial stewardship, and serving others.

Part 3, The Program ~* helps you name goals for your core conditioning program, establish a training schedule, and set the stage for your success. In this section, youll implement the spiritual and physical exercises during a six-week Bible study.

This book is laid out very well in sequence, first explaining benefits and how-to, followed by practical application. The Appendix has an exercise plan for each week, followed by Notes for further study references.

I like to exercise. I've been trying to live out a healthy lifestyle for years. I would say for the most part, I succeed. There are times where I don't eat as well as I should or exercise nearly enough, but for the most part I do eat healthy and exercise a good amount.

I got the book Spiritually Strong by Kristen Feola because it sounded like a really good book and I like fitness stuff so might as well, right?

I set out to read a chapter a week, but I failed in that. However, reading through it I can tell you it's a very informative, helpful book on not just fitness, but on our spiritual health as well.

Sometimes we get so caught up in how well we fit into our skinny jeans that we neglect to see how well we are fitting into God's Kingdom and His plan for our lives. We neglect how well we eat, but we also neglect how well we take in God's Word and how well we pray.

I really liked how Kristen talked on both spiritual and physical health because as Christians, we know they both go together. If you're body is suffering it could be because of physical stuff or it could be because of spiritual stuff and Kristen does a good job addressing both issues.

Overall I would say this is an excellent book. Filled with Scripture and personal stories, you'll not be dulled by nothing but information. Really good job, Kristen!

I would recommend this book to anybody looking to be a bit more healthy in both areas of their lives and I would especially recommend this book to families because I think this would be a wonderful book to go through together.

As someone who has struggled with their faith, I wish I'd had this book many years ago. However I am thankful to have it now. As I am reading it, I am truly enjoying the insight and practical tips for exercising the spiritual muscles. People don't always tell you that it takes consistency (especially when you don't feel like and trust me there will be many days when you don't feel like it) to studying the bible, to building a prayer life, to being disciplined, to fast, to eat in a healthy manner, to serve others, and to practice good stewardship. I think in this day and age of society this really needed.

I can honestly say the only thing I would change about this book is to make it a hardback, so that the cover lasts longer.
