This isn't just an NIV Bible, a widely used version of God's Word. It's filled with over 1,000 facts and trivia questions that are sprinkled at the bebeginning and end of the different books. You can start a book learning facts about the meaning of names brought up in the reading to come and then end it with a challenge of your skills. Can you remember who said what? Can you figure out who the sentence is describing? Try it out for yourself!

This is such a great version. It has the NIV that I absolutely love to use for Bible studies or while in church. It's easy to understand and easy to get into. And then you add in the facts which are unique and fascinating. And the end of the book trivia was actually pretty challenging which was a nice surprise! By trying to concentrate on the reading so I could answer the questions, I was able to become more focused on the Word.

And it's great for carrying around. It's a light weight soft cover so it's not a hastle. I'm going to North Carolina this summer to the mountains and this will be my number one choice because it won't cause trouble while hiking. I couldn't ask for more!

Whether you're a teen looking for your first Bible or a parent or senior looking for something new, this is perfect. It's easy to read and carry around and easy to have fun reading. And if you ever wind up in Bible quizzing, you'll be sure to blow them away with your knowledge of the names of the grandsons of Noah. Four and a half crosses out of five.

Fascinating Trivia from the Most Read Book in History

In this new Bible, you get the complete NIV translation and questions at the end of each book. The start of each book has a introduction page that gives information about the book, interesting facts and key verse of the book. Included with each book of the Bible you have reviews question about what you have read. The questions are in a quiz form on different subjects like; "Who Dunnit" , "Time Traveler" and "Minutime & Miscellany". The question will help you understand what you have read. These questions are useful for a Bible study for small groups or for your own personal studying. To answer the questions will require you to stop and think about what you had covered in the book. I found it interesting and enjoyed reviewing what I had read. The questions will not cover everything that you can learn from the Bible, but it is a start.

The only thing I did not like was that some of the review questions are at the beginning of the books, this was done with many of the short books, In my opinion they should have put all the review questions at the end of each book.

This Bible offers a different and interesting way of Bible reading and study that was not done before plus you get the NIV translation.

The NIV Fast Facts Bible, published by Zondervan, is designed to assist readers "of all ages learn the Bible in an engaging, enlightening new way." It will appeal to most trivia lovers in that it presents interesting facts and knowledge about each book of the Bible.

This Bible is presented in the complete NIV text. Each book begins with a Fast Facts introduction including what's in a name, did you know, by the numbers, and key verses. Each book ends with a trivia quiz including topics such as cryptic phrases, who dunnit, hot seat, time traveler, then vs. now, where in the world, and minutiae & miscellany.

Overall, I liked this Bible. I would have liked to see it in a red letter edition, and the print is presented in a very small font. I also expected more than twelve questions after each book. It seems that the longer books are only skimmed by twelve questions. However, this would be a great Bible for someone just beginning to delve into God's Word.

I've been asked so many times, "What kind of Bible should I get?" With all the different version out there how do you sort through them all and find the one that fits your learning style?

It's a great question because every year we see the release of new Bibles in different translations, formats, and themes. Zondervan, one of the largest Bible publishing companies, brings us another new Bible; the NIV Fast Facts Bible.

Why does the book exist?

Given the proliferation of Bibles this question is highly appropriate; What's the justification for printing yet another theme Bible?

The mission of Bible publication is simple; get the Bible into the hands, minds and hearts of every single person in the world. Given all the different personalities and learning styles I think there's a lot of merit in publishing the Bible in a variety of ways to reach those varying styles. I would draw the line at a Bible that amends the text of Scripture to fit an agenda, but that's not the case here with the Fast Facts Bible.

However, from a practical standpoint, if a publisher is going to release a new Bible it needs to add value, or it needs to be just the text of scripture. That "add value" aspect is where I believe the NIV Fast Facts Bible falls short. To show what I mean, I'm going to compare it against the ESV Outreach Bible from Crossway publishers.

Translation

The Fast Facts Bible uses the NIV 2011 text and the Outreach Bible uses the ESV 2011. While I'm not qualified to speak to the accuracy of translations I can tell you that the NIV 2011 has been highly criticized. Entire denominations (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Southern Baptist Convention) that have used the NIV for years have turned away from the NIV 2011 in favor of the ESV 2011.

Similarities

Both Bibles are basic text Bibles, paperback, and roughly the same size. They do not include cross references, notes, maps, concordances, commentaries, or timelines.

The Fast Facts — each book has a one page set of fast facts to introduce the book. These include statistics like how many chapters, verses, and words, key verses, key words, life lessons and some trivia.

In Review — each book ends with a one page, or less for small books, review of the book. The review is basically a quiz of some elements of the book. Genesis, for example, includes 12 questions with multiple choice answers of an introductory nature.

Tables of weights and measures — this is one page at the back that is the standard table you'll find in most Bibles.

The Wrap Up

You have to find the Bible that works for you that doesn't amend the text of Scripture to fit an agenda. And, as if often said, a Bible you don't read is worthless no matter what translation, features, or cover.

Personally, for the price and the features (or lack of features), I think the NIV Fast Facts Bible is simply over priced. Then again, if you have no other Bible to read; this is a reasonable place to start with some facts, trivia, and interrogative question to get you thinking.

The worth is that it is the priceless Word of God, so if you dont have a Bilbe at all, its fine. But the "extras " are hardly worth it if you already have a Bible. Would have been better to put the skimpy intro's and summaries in its own small book and sell as an adjunct or small study guide. I would be interested in reading that, but not willing to purchase a whole new Bible to get such little information. Font and print size are also not easy to read & I have good vision.
