Tell us a little about yourself. I am the founder of Catholic Scripture Study International which is an international Bible study program I put together which includes commentaries written by well known Catholic bible scholars and accompanying video commentaries by Catholic priests. I wrote a Study guide with step by step instructions that anyone can use to set up a Bible study in their home or parish. At present there are over 30 Catholic Scripture studies ranging from topical studies, short studies and longer studies on various books of the Bible, as well as studies to do during Lent and Advent. More studies are being introduced on a yearly basis. I am the president of the Catholic Leadership Conference and have been the guest on several TV and radio shows as well as featured in magazines and online articles. For 8 years I was the host of Radio Maria's "Bible Lady" show which was an hour long weekly live show. I have been doing the Bible verse of the week segment on the Catholic Connection show on Ave Maria/EWTN radio for almost 10 years as well as shows on a local Catholic radio station. I am married with two grown sons and a step daughter and reside in Charlotte, NC. I enjoy golfing, dancing and playing card games and board games.
What was your motivation behind this project? I was asked by a publisher to put together a this bible to not only accompany my Bible study program (Catholic Scripture Study International) but as a resource primarily for Catholics to help them better understand and explain our Catholic faith. There is an extensive section on Apologetics that has many topics that Catholics are often questioned about such as Purgatory, Marian doctrines, Priest Celibacy, etc. Under each topic is a list of bible references that either are related to these topics to help the Catholic better understand and explain their beliefs to others. There are several "fact faith" articles on topics such as Eucharist, fasting, and confession. I wrote articles on the ten plagues of Egypt and included a map and descriptions of several Old Testament places and events and an article on dreams in the Bible and I wrote a Topical Index that includes topics such as abortion, angels, death, evil, tattoos, modesty, mediums and much more.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I want everyone to know God's Word. It's so important and essential. And for Catholics or anyone wanting to know more about the Catholic faith, this bible has extensive information that is right at their fingertips in their bible. If a Catholic needs help defining a Catholic doctrine, or answering questions about why we genuflect, about the True Presence of God in the Eucharist, why incense is used at Mass, our devotion to Mary, about confession or Purgatory, etc. , it's all here in this bible so they can use their bible and read the passages in Scripture that help define or explain our beliefs and practices. And to find information in the Bible about many other topics such as sorrow, vanity, tribulation, End Times, Homosexuality, false prophets, demons, etc., can be found in the Topical Index, giving bible citations about all these topics and many more.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Working on this bible was a labor of love for me. I love the Lord; I love His Word and I want everyone else to feel the same. To me, there's nothing more important than my faith and I pray for everyone to truly know God, love Him and serve Him on this earth and spend eternity with Him in heaven. Saint Jerome once said, "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of God" and that's so true. It's essential to read and study the Bible to know Him and know how to live our lives according to His Will.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I am a convert to the Catholic faith. I was a Protestant for 45 years and I have great respect for people like Billy Graham and Franklin Graham as well as several other Protestant and Evangelical speakers and authors. I admire Beth Moore and enjoy listening to Joyce Meyer. I love the writings of C.S. Lewis and J.R R Tolkein. As a Catholic, I have been greatly influenced by bible scholars and authors such as Dr. Scott Hahn, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, and Steve Ray as well as apologists such as Patrick Madrid, Trent Horn, and Jimmy Akin. There are many others I could list but these are the ones who first come to mind.
This Bible has a glued binding.
I have emailed the publishers to discover what size font is used.
